The museum is housed in a Grade I listed 19th-century manor house, Claverton Manor , designed by Jeffry Wyatville for John Vivian in 1819–20. The building itself is a masterpiece of architecture, featuring elegant bows overlooking the River Avon valley and ornate detailing throughout. Originally built on the site of an earlier manor, it has a rich history with previous owners including Sir Edward Hungerford and Ralph Allen.
