From the River--Pale is an oil painting on canvas created by Georgia O'Keeffe in 1959. The composition features a light-colored serpentine river that winds vertically through the canvas, accompanied by several smaller streams that break off along the way. The banks of the river are highlighted with shades of yellow, while the remaining landscape is characterized by pale colors. Sparse trees are positioned in the background landscape.
Technical Details
The artwork is executed using an oil painting technique on a 2 x 2, bleached linen, closed, basket-weave support. The artist applied paint over a charcoal or graphite line under-drawing in single layers, allowing the texture of the primed canvas to remain visible.
