Laurent Ridel stands as a beacon of Parisian horological artistry during the opulent Rococo era, embodying the spirit of elegance and innovation that defined its finest hours. Known to history by his signature Ridel à Paris, he was one of the most important clockmakers of the late 18th century and the early years of the 19th century. While his precise origins are rooted in Grasse around 1760, it was in the heart of Paris that he forged his legendary reputation. Ridel eschewed rigid academic conventions, instead pursuing a singular path toward artistic excellence through a profound dedication to capturing the beauty of meticulously crafted timepieces.

The success of Ridel’s workshop was built upon a foundation of unparalleled collaboration with the most skilled artisans of the age. Most notably, his prestige was such that he earned the patronage of Mesdames de France—the daughters of Louis XV—for whom he crafted a magnificent clock in 1789 intended for their palace in Bellevue.
