An accomplished English watercolourist known for her exquisite botanical studies like Orange Crocus, Caroline Maria Applebee captured the nineteenth century's most fashionable plants through a lens of pure horticultural beauty.

Caroline Maria Applebee (c. 1787-1854) was one of many talented, dedicated amateur flower painters who flourished in the first half of the nineteenth century. As an artist she is largely unknown, but her works document many of the most fashionable plants of the period, revealing a keen horticultural interest and creating a unique and important record. The only known collection of her paintings is held at the RHS Lindley Library.
