Jiao Bingzhen based in Jining (濟寧), Shandong Province(山東省) was a professional artist who was active during the era of Kangxi Emperor of Qing Dynasty. At the time missionaries from the west was flowing into the country bringing with them a western art technique. The western painting technique made a huge impression on many Qing artists including Jiao. It is told that Jiao paid great attention to the new painting technique from the west and mastered it at the end.
