The work is categorized as a realist portrait. It utilizes the medium of oil on a wooden panel to render the subject. The composition focuses on the physical presence of the artist, documented through a specific application of paint that emphasizes the details of his appearance and clothing.

Composition and Visual Elements

The subject is seated in a chair with his hands crossed. He wears a suit and a tie, and a mustache is visible on his face. His gaze is directed toward the viewer. A soft, gentle glow illuminates the subject's face, creating a contrast against the surrounding environment. The figure is positioned centrally within the frame, establishing a sense of direct presence.

The background contains a couch and a dining table, which suggests the setting is a living room or a dining area. These elements provide a domestic context to the portrait. The arrangement of the furniture and the placement of the subject create a structured interior space. The light source focuses on the facial features, leaving the peripheral areas in a more muted state.
