The White Stone of Venice

The façade of Santa Maria dei Miracoli rises from the water like a pale dream carved from salt. It is a structure of white marble, intricate and heavy, yet it seems to float above the dark, still canals of Venice, Italy. Sunlight catches the sharp edges of the stone carvings, casting shadows into the deep recesses of the rose window and the arched portals.
