Alphonse Mucha (1860 – 1939)

Tsjechische Art Nouveau-legende, bekend om vloeiende lijnen, organische vormen en geïdealiseerde vrouwen in weelderige bloemen.

The Composition of Nude

The painting, titled Nude, depicts a woman lying on her side in a bed, resting her head upon a pillow. She appears to be in a state of sleep or relaxation. The woman's body is the primary focus of the work and is depicted as naked. A veil is draped over her face, creating an element of mystery within the scene. The bed is covered with a white sheet, which serves as a contrasting background to the subject's body. In the background, two other people are visible, though they are not the main subject and appear smaller in scale than the woman on the bed.

Technical Details

The artist utilized tempera on canvas to create this work. The technique involved the meticulous layering of pigments and the use of glazing—applying thin, translucent layers over opaque colors—to achieve textural depth and luminosity. The piece is characterized by its use of subtle gradations of tone and color.
