Woman from Buenos Aires on the couch

Colección de Arte Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat
This is an intimate scene, with contained eroticism. A woman on a Roman divan rests her left arm on a large, fluffy pillow, one leg is covered by a blanket and the other creeps out to play with her pet; she is wearing a white transparent gown that is unbuttoned to reveal her right breast, and her hair is pulled back under a white headband. On a low table to one side, there is a mate that she has left sit while occupied with her recreation. The scene takes place in a somewhat artificial environment, judging by the large drapery that hangs to the left. This small watercolor exudes the Neoclassical spirit of the 19th century, although it is also somewhat indebted to Rococo eroticism. If it were not for the Creole infusion that gives a bit of local color, the scene could well be considered European.
