The beheading of Julius Paul and the capture of Claudius Civilis. The decapitated body of Julius Paul lies on the floor between some Roman soldiers, on the left the executioner holds his axe. In the foreground, Claudius Civilis is taken away by soldiers. First performance in a series of twelve scenes of the Batavier rebellion against the Romans (SK-A-421/432), purchased by the States General in 1613.
