Visual Composition and Subject Matter
This black and white photograph captures a book positioned at an angle. The composition includes the spine of the volume and a view of the image printed on the inside cover. The perspective allows for a simultaneous view of the book's exterior edge and the graphic content contained within its pages.
The central subject of the image on the inside cover is a man. He is depicted standing in front of a doorway. His posture and the placement of his hands suggest he is holding an object, which appears to be either a key or a piece of paper. The lighting and tonal range of the photograph define the contours of the figure and the architectural elements of the doorway behind him.
