Das Vereinigte Königreich ist eine Union aus den vier Landesteilen England, Wales, Schottland und Nordirland. Jedoch stellt England in der eigentlichen Bedeutung nur den größten Landesteil dar, während Großbritannien die Hauptinsel der Britischen Inseln bezeichnet . Mit rund 66,4 Millionen Einwohnern steht das Vereinigte Königreich unter den bevölkerungsreichsten Staaten Europas nach Russland und Deutschland an dritter Stelle. Es ist Gründungsmitglied der NATO sowie der Vereinten Nationen. Es ist Atommacht, ständiges Mitglied des UN-Sicherheitsrates und einer der G7-Staaten. Von 1973 bis 2020 war es Mitglied der EWG bzw. später der Europäischen Union. Aufgrund eines Referendums am 23. Juni 2016 wurde mit Ablauf des 31. Januar 2020 der Austritt aus der Europäischen Union vollzogen.

Nostell Priory ist ein Herrenhaus im Dorf Nostell bei Crofton in der Nähe von Wakefield in der englischen Verwaltungseinheit West Yorkshire. Das Haus wurde 1733 im palladianistischen Stil für die Familie Winn auf dem Gelände einer ehemaligen, mittelalterlichen Priorei errichtet. Das Herrenhaus und sein Inhalt wurden 1953 von den Treuhändern des Anwesens und Rowland Winn dem National Trust überlassen.

Nottingham Industrial Museum

The Nottingham Industrial Museum is a volunteer-run museum situated in part of the 17th-century stables block of Wollaton Hall, located in a suburb of the city of Nottingham. The museum won the Nottinghamshire Heritage Site of the Year Award 2012, a local accolade issued by Experience Nottinghamshire. The Museum collection closed in 2009 after Nottingham City Council withdrew funding, but has since reopened at weekends and bank holidays, helped by a £91,000 government grant , and run by volunteers. The museum contains a display of local textiles machinery, transport, telecommunications, mining and engineering technology. There is a display of cycles, motorcycles, and motor cars. There are examples of significant lace-making machinery. It also houses an operational beam engine, from the Basford, Nottingham pumping station.

Ordsall Hall is a large former manor house in the historic parish of Ordsall, Lancashire, England, now part of the City of Salford, in Greater Manchester. It dates back more than 750 years, although the oldest surviving parts of the present hall were built in the 15th century. The most important period of Ordsall Hall's life was as the family seat of the Radclyffe family, who lived in the house for more than 300 years. The hall was the setting for William Harrison Ainsworth's 1842 novel Guy Fawkes, written around the plausible although unsubstantiated local story that the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 was planned in the house. Since its sale by the Radclyffes in 1662 the hall has been put to many uses: a working men's club, a school for clergy, and a radio station among them. The house was bought by the old Salford Council in 1959 and opened to the public in 1972, as a period house and local history museum. The hall is a Grade I listed building, and entrance is free.

Es diente von Anfang an dem Zweck, die Qualifikation der Ärzte sicherzustellen und gegen nicht- qualifizierte Mediziner vorzugehen. Sie gaben auch Bücher heraus und beaufsichtigten die Veröffentlichung medizinischer Bücher in Großbritannien. Das Royal College of Physicians hat ein eigenes Museum mit umfangreichen Sammlungen zum Beispiel von medizinischen Instrumenten, von Skulpturen und Porträts sowie Silber. Das RCP war früher im heutigen Canada House am Trafalgar Square und ist heute am Regents Park in einem 1964 von Denys Lasdun entworfenen Gebäude ansässig. Alle zwei Monate erscheint die Zeitschrift des Colleges Clinical Medicine. Jährlich findet die Lumleian Lecture statt, benannt nach Lord John Lumley , ferner die Croonian Lecture, die Bradshaw Lecture, die Goulstonian Lecture und die Harvenian Lecture zu Ehren von William Harvey. Chirurgen und Zahnärzte haben ein eigenes Royal College of Surgeons of England . Es gibt auch noch weitere Ärzteverbände wie das Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
