Milán [2]​ es la mayor área metropolitana de Italia y el segundo municipio de Italia por población , capital de la Ciudad metropolitana de Milán y de la región de Lombardía. Se encuentra ubicada en la llanura padana, una de las regiones más desarrolladas de Italia. En 2008, el PIB de la ciudad, fue estimado por el INSEE en 366 mil millones de euros, el segundo de Europa después de la región de París. Milán, como capital económica e industrial de Italia, tiene el aspecto y las características de una metrópolis moderna: rascacielos , edificios de cristal y metal y grandes almacenes. En la ciudad se encuentra la Pinacoteca de Brera, uno de los mayores museos de Europa, fundada en 1809 por Napoleón Bonaparte como hermano italiano del Louvre. Destaca también la obra maestra de Leonardo da Vinci, la pintura mural La última cena y diversos monumentos románicos que hacen de Milán la capital del románico lombardo.

The Diocesan Museum of Milan is an art museum in Milan housing a permanent collection of sacred artworks, especially from Milan and Lombardy. Originally conceived by Ildefonso Schuster in 1931 as a vehicle to protect and promote the art collection of the Archdiocese of Milan, the museum was eventually established in the former headquarters of the Dominican Order in the back of the Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio with the support of Pope Paul VI. In 2001 Carlo Maria Martini inaugurated the current venue located in Porta Ticinese.

The Policlinico of Milan also known as Ospedale Maggiore di Milano or Ca' Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, is one of the oldest hospitals in Italy, founded by Duke Francesco Sforza in 1456. Today it is a modern hospital with 900 beds, with wards for adults, pregnant women and children. There are three different emergency rooms for different categories of patients. The maternity ward has the highest number of births in Lombardy. The Foundation is a scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization and Health Care , which means that, alongside clinical activity, it promotes research programs with predominantly translational purposes. The programs are concerned with the rapid transfer of therapies from the laboratory to patients.
