Sheffield es una ciudad y municipio metropolitano perteneciente al condado de Yorkshire del Sur, Inglaterra. Según el censo de 2008, su población es de aproximadamente 534 500 habitantes. Es además muy activa debido a su numerosa comunidad de estudiantes y su comercio. Es una de las pocas ciudades que cuenta con un parque nacional a las afueras, conocido como Peak District . Su nombre deriva del río Sheaf que atraviesa la ciudad. Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust

Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust, known as Museums Sheffield is a charity created in 1998 to run Sheffield City Council’s non-industrial museums and galleries. Museums Sheffield currently manages three sites in the city: Graves Art Gallery, Millennium Gallery and Weston Park Museum. It is run from offices at Leader House on Surrey Street. The trust is responsible for the care of the city's historic collections, including visual and decorative art, social history, archaeology and natural sciences. Its mission is 'to connect with our visitors, share stories about Sheffield and the wider world, and care for the city's collections'.

It is based on two sites; the City Campus is located in the city centre near Sheffield railway station, while the Collegiate Crescent Campus is about two miles away in the Broomhall Estate off Ecclesall Road in south-west Sheffield. The university is the 11th largest university in the UK with 30,715 students , 4,494 staff and 708 courses.

It is Sheffield's largest museum and is housed in a Grade II* listed building and managed by Museums Sheffield. Until 2006 it was called Sheffield City Museum and Mappin Art Gallery.

Graves Art Gallery is an art gallery in Sheffield, England. The gallery is located above the Central Library in Sheffield city centre. It houses permanent displays from the city’s historic and contemporary collection of British and European art along with a programme of temporary exhibitions. The collection encapsulates the story of the development of art. The main trends and movements are traced through works by many artists, from JMW Turner, Alfred Sisley and Sir Stanley Spencer, to Helen Chadwick, Marc Quinn and Bridget Riley. The gallery is managed by Museums Sheffield.
