Plymouth est une ville située dans le comté de Devon , à 350 km au sud-ouest de Londres, à l’embouchure de deux fleuves le Plym et le Tamar, qui se rejoignent pour former un port naturel, Plymouth Sound. Celui-ci abrite la principale base navale d'Angleterre , des chantiers navals et des ferries à destination de la France et de l’Espagne. Le Plymouth d'aujourd'hui correspond à la réunion de trois villes : Plymouth, Devonport et Stonehouse depuis 1914. En 1928, la ville obtient le statut de cité. Puis en 1967, Plymouth intègre deux autres agglomérations : Plympton et Plymstock. En 2011, la population est estimée à 258 700 habitants. L’université de Plymouth était classée 9e par le nombre d’étudiants en 2009 au Royaume-Uni[réf. nécessaire]. En 2019, Plymouth a rejoint le mouvement Fab City, suivant l'appel lancé par le maire de Barcelone, Xavier Trias, à ce que toutes les villes du monde deviennent autosuffisantes pour 2054.

Saltram House

Saltram House is a grade I listed George II era mansion house located in the parish of Plympton, near Plymouth in Devon, England. It was deemed by the architectural critic Pevsner to be "the most impressive country house in Devon". The house was designed by the architect Robert Adam, who altered and greatly expanded the original Tudor house on two occasions. The drawing room is considered one of Adam's finest interiors. Saltram is one of Britain's best preserved examples of an early Georgian house and retains much of its original decor, plasterwork and furnishings. It contains the Parker family's large collection of paintings, including several by Sir Joshua Reynolds , born and educated at Plympton and a friend of the Parker family. The present building was commenced by John Parker of nearby Boringdon Hall, Plympton, and of Court House North Molton, both in Devon, together with his wife Catherine Poulett , a daughter of John Poulett, 1st Earl Poulett. It was completed by his son John Parker, 1st Baron Boringdon , whose son was John Parker, 1st Earl of Morley . The Parker family had risen to prominence in the mid-16th century as the bailiff of the manor of North Molton, Devon, under Baron Zouche of Haryngworth.In 1957 Saltram House was donated by the Parker family to the National Trust in lieu of death duties, and is open to the public. Saltram House was used as one of several local settings for the 1995 film Sense and Sensibility.

Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery

Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery in the Drake Circus area of Plymouth, Devon, England was built in 1907–10 by Thornely and Rooke in Edwardian Baroque style. The building closed in late 2016. Along with the former Central Library building and St Luke's Church on Tavistock Place, it has since been redeveloped into The Box, Plymouth. This major new museum, gallery and archive is scheduled to open in 2020.

It was opened in May 1998, with charitable aims of research, education and conservation. It is the largest aquarium in the United Kingdom. It is run by the Ocean Conservation Trust It is a member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums .

Plymouth Marjon University, commonly referred to as Marjon is the Trading name of the University of St Mark and St John, a university based primarily on a single campus on the northern edge of Plymouth, Devon, United Kingdom. Formerly named University College Plymouth St Mark & St John, the institution was awarded full university status in 2013.The Vice-Chancellor of the university is Rob Warner who joined in March 2017.
