Assis é uma cidade e sé episcopal no flanco ocidental do Monte Subasio, na região da Umbria, província de Perugia, com cerca de 24.443 habitantes. Estende-se por uma área de 186 km², tendo uma densidade populacional de 131 hab/km². Faz fronteira com Bastia Umbra, Bettona, Cannara, Nocera Umbra, Perugia, Spello, Valfabbrica, Valtopina. É famosa por ter sido o local de nascimento de São Francisco de Assis , que lá fundou a Ordem dos Franciscanos em 1208, e de Santa Clara de Assis , fundadora da Ordem das Clarissas.

The Sacro Convento is a Franciscan friary in Assisi, Umbria, Italy. The friary is connected as part of three buildings to the upper and lower church of the Basilica of San Francesco d'Assisi, where the friars custody with great reverence the body of Saint Francis. St. Francis wanted to be buried at this location outside of Assisi's city walls, called Hill of Hell , because his master Jesus of Nazareth also was killed like a criminal outside of the city of Jerusalem.

Santa Maria degli Angeli is a frazione of the comune of Assisi in the Province of Perugia, Umbria, central Italy. It stands at an elevation of 218 metres above sea level. At the time of the Istat census of 2001 it had 6,665 inhabitants, and is located c. 4 km south from Assisi. The name of the city was used by the Spanish Franciscan missionaries as the name of Los Angeles, now one of the largest cities of the United States. It is home to the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, which includes the Porziuncola, the most sacred place of the various Franciscan Orders. St. Francis of Assisi himself died here.
