Glasgow é a maior cidade da Escócia, e a terceira mais populosa do Reino Unido, depois da capital Londres e de Birmingham, e a mais populosa cidade britânica fora da Inglaterra. Seu nome completo é City of Glasgow , e forma a mais populosa das 32 Autoridades Unitárias da Escócia. A cidade se situa às margens do rio Clyde, nas Lowlands centro-ocidentais. O nativo da cidade é chamado, em inglês, de Glaswegian, nome que também designa o dialeto peculiar local. Povoado formado originalmente no século VI, Glasgow evoluiu a partir do bispado de Glasgow, na Idade Média, e do estabelecimento posterior da Universidade de Glasgow, que contribuiu para o Iluminismo Escocês. Desde o século XVIII a cidade tornou-se um dos principais centros do comércio transatlântico com a América. Com a Revolução Industrial, a cidade e a região que a cerca cresceram e acabando por torná-la um dos principais centros de engenharia e construção naval, onde foram construídas diversas embarcações famosas e revolucionárias. Glasgow foi conhecida como a "Segunda cidade do Império Britânico", na era vitoriana. Hoje em dia faz parte dos dezesseis principais centros financeiros da Europa, e nela se localizam muitas das principais empresas escocesas. Glasgow também é o local de nascimento de Angus Young e Malcolm Young, fundadores do AC/DC, e de Mark Knopfler, fundador do Dire Straits. No fim do século XIX e início do XX, a população de Glasgow ultrapassou a marca de um milhão, e passou a ser a quarta maior cidade do continente, após Londres, Paris e Berlim. Na década de 1960 diversos projetos que reassentaram parte da população em cidades novas e subúrbios periféricos, juntamente com mudanças nas fronteiras locais, reduziram a população atual da Área de Autoridade Unitária da Cidade de Glasgow para 580 690 habitantes. 1,750,500 pessoas vivem na área urbana da Grande Glasgow. A região imediatamente em torno da conurbação engloba aproximadamente 2,3 milhões de habitantes, 41% da população do país.

The Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow is a professional body of legal practitioners based in Glasgow and providing services to lawyers in the city and the surrounding area. The Faculty owns and operates the largest law library in the West of Scotland as well as a small branch library at Glasgow Sheriff Court, and runs a programme of continuing professional development seminars. The Faculty is similar to the Society of Writers to Her Majesty's Signet , a professional association of solicitors which maintains the Signet Library in Edinburgh, however these bodies play no regulatory role for their members, only providing services, and should be distinguished from the Law Society of Scotland and Faculty of Advocates, which are the respective regulatory bodies for solicitors and advocates in Scotland.

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, is an institute of physicians and surgeons in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded by Peter Lowe after receiving a royal charter by James VI in 1599, as the Glasgow Faculty, it originally existed as a regulatory authority to ensure that physicians, surgeons and dentists In the West of Scotland were appropriately trained and regulated. In 1909, it achieved Royal recognition and became the Royal Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow . In 1962, following agreement with the other medical and surgical Royal Colleges in the UK it achieved collegiate status as the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow , by which name it is known today.The College, in combination with the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh provided a primary medical qualification which entitled the bearer to practice medicine, and was registerable with the General Medical Council as a primary medical qualification the Triple Qualification diploma , LRCS , LRCPSG). From 1994, until the abolition of non-university qualifying examinations in 1999, this was offered through the United Examining Board. Until 1948 the Faculty provided dental education via the Glasgow Dental School awarding the qualification of LDS RFPSG. Since 1948 training in dentistry has been provided by the University of Glasgow who award the BDS degree. The College is now concerned with postgraduate medical education, offering examinations that lead to Membership and Fellowship to appropriately qualified physicians, surgeons, dental surgeons and podiatrists. They also offer a number of specialist postgraduate diplomas to medical practitioners in various subjects including dermatology, child health, geriatric medicine, travel health, ophthalmology, and dentistry.

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland , formerly the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, is a conservatoire of dance, drama, music, production and film in the centre of Glasgow, Scotland. It is a member of the Federation of Drama Schools.Founded in 1847, it has become the busiest performing arts venue in Scotland with over 500 public performances each year. The current Principal is American pianist and composer Jeffrey Sharkey, the President is Sir Cameron Mackintosh, and the Patron is Prince Charles.
