Louisville é a cidade mais populosa do estado americano do Kentucky. Está localizada no noroeste do Kentucky, e logo ao sul do estado de Indiana. A cidade é separada de Indiana apenas pelo rio Ohio. Foi fundada em 1778 por uma expedição de treze famílias comandadas pelo Coronel George Rogers. Sua economia baseia-se primariamente na fabricação de whiskey e no turismo. Louisville é a cidade natal de Hugo Keno Don Rosa, famoso quadrinista da Disney, James Kottak, atual baterista da banda alemã Scorpions, Jennifer Lawrence, atriz conhecida por Winter's Bone e Jogos Vorazes, Mary Travers, integrante da banda Peter Paul and Mary e da cantora Mia Zapata, já falecida, famosa por ter sido a vocalista da banda The Gits. Foi nesta cidade, também, que cresceu Nicole Scherzinger do grupo The Pussycat Dolls que inclusive, foi criado um dia em sua homenagem. É também a cidade onde nasceu Muhammad Ali, considerado por muitos o melhor pugilista de todos os tempos.

The Filson Historical Society

The Filson Historical Society is a historical society located in the Old Louisville neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. The organization was founded in 1884 and named after early Kentucky explorer John Filson, who wrote The Discovery, Settlement, and Present State of Kentucke, which included one of the first maps of the state. The Filson's extensive collections focus on Kentucky, the Upper South, and the Ohio River Valley. Its research facilities include a manuscript collection as well as a library that includes rare books, periodicals, maps, and other published materials. The Filson also maintains a small museum. One distinctive possession of the museum is a section of American beech tree trunk, with the carved legend "D. Boon kilt a bar [killed a bear] 1803."

Speed Art Museum

The Speed Art Museum, originally known as the J.B. Speed Memorial Museum, now colloquially referred to as the Speed by locals, is the oldest, largest, and foremost museum of art in Kentucky. It is located in Louisville, Kentucky on Third Street next to the University of Louisville Belknap campus and receives around 180,000 visits annually.The museum offers visitors a variety of "art experiences" outside its collection and international exhibitions, including the Speed Concert Series, the Art Sparks Interactive Family Gallery, and the popular late-night event, After Hours at the Speed.The Speed houses ancient, classical, and modern art from around the world. The focus of the collection is Western art, from antiquity to the present day. Holdings of paintings from the Netherlands, French and Italian works, and contemporary art are particularly strong, with sculpture prominent throughout.
