Cambridge é uma antiga cidade universitária no Reino Unido, sede do condado de Cambridgeshire, na região leste do país. Situa-se a aproximadamente 80 quilômetros de Londres.Dentro de uma região pantanosa e de depressão, de difícil circulação, e às margens do Rio Cam, afluente do Ouse , Cambridge domina uma das saídas naturais da área. Daí resultou sua primeira função, a de porto fluvial, bastante importante para receber, na Idade Média, barcos marítimos de pequeno porte. Sua situação geográfica tornou-a, no século XIII, sede da mais importante feira do país. Graças ao intenso comércio, representado pela exportação de lãs, tecidos e produtos agrícolas, Cambridge enriqueceu, e, ainda no séc. XIII, assumiu novo papel: o de cidade sede da Universidade de Cambridge. Ao primeiro college , o de Peterhouse, fundado em 1284, foram-se seguindo outros, chegando ao total de 31 colleges para homens e dois para mulheres. Alguns deles são especialmente afamados, como o Christ’s College, onde Erasmo ensinou teologia, o King's College, de belíssima arquitetura, salientando-se sua capela orgival, do séc. XV, o Queen's College, o Trinity College, a que pertenceram Francis Bacon, Lord Byron e Sir Isaac Newton, Corpus Christi College, Downing College, Stephen Hawking e o Jesus College. Ao contrário de Oxford, sua tradicional rival, Cambridge foi muito pouco atingida pela industrialização, mantendo a atmosfera de cidade universitária. A vida da cidade praticamente limita-se às atividades direta ou indiretamente ligadas à população estudantil, quase se despovoando nos períodos de férias escolares.Com os colégios recobertos de vegetação alinhados ao longo do rio, os verdes gramados e campos de esporte, a par da riqueza de sua arquitetura, Cambridge é uma cidade bela, que o turismo tem aproveitado de várias maneiras. O censo de 2001 contou 108.863 habitantes em Cambridge, dos quais 22.153 eram estudantes. Em 29 de abril de 2011, o príncipe William recebeu de sua avó, a rainha Elizabeth II, o título de duque de Cambridge, a poucas horas antes do seu casamento com Kate Middleton. Com isso, após o casamento William e Kate foram reconhecidos como duque e duquesa de Cambridge. O título de duque é o mais alto da hierarquia da nobreza britânica, somente abaixo de reis e príncipes.

Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge

Sidney Sussex College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge in England. The college was founded in 1596 under the terms of the will of Frances Sidney, Countess of Sussex wife of Thomas Radclyffe, 3rd Earl of Sussex and named after its founder. It was from its inception an avowedly Protestant foundation; "some good and godlie moniment for the mainteynance of good learninge". In her will, Lady Sussex left the sum of £5,000 together with some plate to found a new college at Cambridge University "to be called the Lady Frances Sidney Sussex College". Her executors Sir John Harington and Henry Grey, 6th Earl of Kent, supervised by Archbishop John Whitgift, founded the college seven years after her death.

Clare College

St Catharine's College, Cambridge

St Catharine's College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. Founded in 1473 as Katharine Hall, it adopted its current name in 1860. The college is nicknamed "Catz". The college is located in the historic city-centre of Cambridge, and lies just south of King's College and across the street from Corpus Christi College. The college is notable for its open court that faces towards Trumpington Street. St Catharine's is unique in being the only Oxbridge college founded by the serving head of another college. The college community is moderately sized, consisting of approximately 70 fellows, 150 graduate students, and 410 undergraduates.

Christ's College é uma das 31 instituições universitárias da Universidade de Cambridge no Reino Unido. Fica situada na St Andrews Street, Cambridge, CB2 3BU, Inglaterra. A instituição foi fundada em 1437 com o nome de "God's House" sobre as terras ocupadas atualmente pela King's College, recebendo a sua primeira permissão real em 1446. Em 1448 a instituição foi transferida para o local atual, onde recebeu a sua segunda permissão real. Em 1505, God's House foi rebatizada como Christ's College, quando recebeu sua carta-patente atual com uma dotação e expansão patrocinada por Lady Margaret Beaufort, mãe do Rei Henrique VII. É considerada uma instituição de elevado nível acadêmico – nos últimos 20 anos permaneceu nas primeiras colocações do "Tompkins Table", um ranking anual que lista as faculdades da Universidade de Cambridge por ordem de desempenho acadêmico dos estudantes. Em 2007, ficou em segundo lugar. Apresenta também um bom nível em atividades desportivas: as equipes de rugby e de futebol apresentam um ótimo desenpenho nos encontros interuniversitários.

Addenbrooke's Hospital is an internationally renowned teaching hospital and research centre in Cambridge, England, with strong affiliations to the University of Cambridge. Addenbrooke's Hospital is based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The hospital is run by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is a designated academic health science centre. It is also the East of England's Major Trauma Centre - the first of which to be operational in the UK.

New Hall Art Collection

The New Hall Art Collection is a permanent collection of modern and contemporary art by women artists, at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge , England. It includes over five hundred works by artists of international renown and is now considered to be one of the largest and most significant collections of contemporary art by women in the world. Paintings, prints, and sculpture are displayed throughout Murray Edwards College in Cambridge. The College has no designated gallery and the works are displayed throughout its buildings and grounds. The modernist College buildings were completed in 1965 by Chamberlain, Powell and Bon and are Grade II* listed. The Collection has come about as the result of many gifts and loans from artists and donors. The Collection started in 1986 with the purchase of Mary Kelly's "Extase" following her stay as artist in residence. This spurred the hope that the College might develop a permanent collection of 20th-century art by women, to inspire the female students who would live among it. In 1992, Dr Valerie Pearl wrote to 100 of the leading women artists in Britain and received some 75 donations in return. The collection continues to acquire works by gifts and loans from artists and alumnae. It is the largest collection of art by women in Europe and about 95 per cent of it is displayed.On 7 March 2018, the New Hall Art Collection received accreditation from the Arts Council England which recognises the quality of the Collection and the professionalism with which it is managed. Many of the works are on display to visitors and a self-guided tour is available from the Porters' Lodge.

Homerton College, Cambridge

Homerton College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. Its first premises were acquired in London in 1768, by an informal gathering of Protestant dissenters with origins in the seventeenth century. In 1894 the College moved from Homerton High Street, Hackney, London, to Cambridge. Homerton was admitted as an "Approved Society" of the university in 1976, and received its Royal charter in 2010 affirming its status as a full college of the university. The College celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2018.With around 600 undergraduates, 800 graduates, and 90 fellows, it has more students than any other Cambridge college, but because only half of these are resident undergraduates its undergraduate presence is similar to large colleges such as Trinity and St John's. The College has particularly strong ties to public service as well as academia, having educated many prominent dissenting thinkers, educationalists, politicians, and missionary explorers.The College has extensive grounds which encompass sports fields, water features, beehives and the focal point of the college, its Victorian Gothic hall. It also has a wide range of student clubs and societies, including Homerton College Boat Club, Homerton College Music Society and the Homerton College Rugby Football Club.
